Sass, if you feel you need a holiday, you go for it: no-one is beholden to the board, and apart from perhaps a few apologies here and there, nobody owes anyone anything. It's a voluntary board.

You've a lot on your plate, and if the board is feeling more chore than joy, then take as long as you need.

Hello Gonnagle, Santa here.  If you want that, you will have to hang up a pair of black mesh stockings so that I can fit her in.  Thigh length boots will be provided as standard.

Definitely!

I didn't ask for a lot last year!

All I really, really wanted was a 93 year old nympho with a body like Angelina Jolie, a brewery and a whisky distillery and an advanced heart condition!

What did I get?

An addition to my Monster High doll collection - the shape was right but everything else . . .

Do you think that I haven't tried that! I have. The only downside is that I have, working part-time, to work for nothing because every pound I earn is deducted from my pension! Plus the fact that the pressure is on employers to take on the young unemployed to reduce the benefits bill!

Dear Matt,

Ah! The old retirement issue, we should have a thread with a sticky on it for this Forum, we have enough old foggies on this Forum to offer some insights.

I myself have four years to go before I reach sixty and the thought has crossed my mind, what am I going to do with my senior years.

A new skill, you are never to old to learn, I have never made anything with my own two hands, so I have been thinking that this could be one answer.

But there are so many avenues to explore and with this internet thingy, well the world is your mollusc.

We can't all retire to Espana like our Leonard and have young tanned lads peel us grapes all day. 8)

Gonners, do you still have evening classes up there where you can learn to make your own stuff? Ours went west under the last government and any remnant this one's finished off. Private tuition is a lot more expensive. The internet offers lots of free stuff though.

Dear Rhiannon,

Aye!! The bloody government tell us we should aspire to greater things but are shutting down further learning centres.

And Matt is right, it can seem that it is all geared towards the young but there are avenues still available, trouble I find is that a lot of courses are about computing, I want to be happy in my old age not bored. >:(

Tell you what we do have round here, local history group with monthly lectures, they often get volunteers to archive stuff or help in the museum and you learn on the job. Local Wildlife Trusts too offer voluntary opportunities to learn hedge laying and vole protection. Even the Stately Home will reach you how to tell people about the magnificent Adam fireplace although the uniforms a bit naff.

And we do have a U3A but I'm too young for them... :P

Dear Rhiannon,

What Glasgow has in abundance is charity shops, I myself volunteer for Barnardo's and that is a great learning experience.

Only a couple of days ago I had a young customer who was over the moon regarding a pair of old jeans, apparently they were designer jeans and should cost a fortune, he went away very happy with his tenner purchase.  :o

Yeah, we have a lot of charity shops too, vintage is very cool these days and I love searching through them. I'm a self-taught upcycler and always look out for things that can be painted or remade into something else. I can't pass up old fabrics and lampshades. Quite a few younger people I know buy clothes from charity shops and restyle them.

I wish I had the time to ebay more. So long as the charity shop knows what they are selling there's no problem - there's a limit on what such shops can charge even for the best stuff and so bargains are still to be had. I did once spot an Art Deco ornament in Oxfam for 99p that I knew was worth at least fifteen quid and I did point that out to the staff.

All this negativity about retirement is something which is quite foreign to me.  I retired in 2004, did part time contract work until 2009 and have been fully retired since then. The past decade ranks as one of the most fulfilling of my life.  Retirement has simply entailed a switch from working for a salary to working for no remuneration but in areas which I find both enjoyable and satisfying.  I find it difficult to imagine how I ever found time to work.  There are simply not enough hours in the day.

Actually, he was born the 7th month of the Hebrew calendar mid Sept to  mid Oct.  The date was not stolen from pagans. In fact the date was stolen by Pagans when it became the birth of Christ.
The winter solstice and pagan day was the 21st December, The Easter egg is the Jewish celebration for the new life represented by an egg. It was all part of the leaving to go into the wilderness and the passover. In fact the pagans copied a lot if you research you will see there were no set days for the 25th December till after Christ.
The Jews always went by their calendar.

eBay is addictive.

My husband started collecting carving sets on eBay and we must have a hundred flippin sets gathering dust 😉

I sympathise! With mine it's seasonal decorations and clocks.

Christmas trees, Santa Clauses, Easter decorations, Hallowe'en witches on broomsticks etc., vie for position with clocks of all sorts.

All of them gathered on his weekly excursion to the car boot sale. :(

If you were any fuller of bullshit you would explode.

Stonehenge, which is set to the solstices (Winter and Summer) was built long before Christ! And what do Chritstians celebrate - Yule - Yule which is a pagan festival.

Easter - Pagan Ostara - from the same root as oestrogen a hormone dealing with fertility - eggs for Easter!

You can push your ideas that Christianity invented everything on tthe religious calendar until you are blue in the face! Paganism existed for more than 23,000 years before Christ!

This can be proven - the earliest religious artifact, the Venus of Willendorf, a fertility deity, has bveen dated to between 25,000 and 23,000 BCE.

No single artifact that PROVES the existence of your Christ exists!

Christ existed... In Chester the Roman Garrison based their had records of them crucifying Christ. Something you will never get to see. Just as the Nails, the shroud and the spear kept as a witness. People don't keep things like that if they are not real.

False gods do not predate the Hebrew Faith.

China and Hebrew literature at the top. Did you know the oldest religion which professed one God was actually Chinese. Nothing to do with paganism by the way.
Because paganism can be lumped under the one Baal.
It is the worship of nature in about every form, the male forces of course. But does not pre-date the one God faith system.

Sass,

What is your list supposed to show? What book is taken from?

Why does it not show Zoroastrianism, which is possibly the oldest (non-oriental if your statement is correct) monotheistic religion and the probable precurser of Judaism?

What has this to do with "language"?

You really are a joke!

Where did I say anything about the Venus belonging to any particular God, or, in this case, Goddess!

I merely stated, truthfully, that it is Pagan. A false God/dess only to you!

I didn't, my point is, whch you cannot stomach, is that it predates your Christian crock of shit by bloody long way!

More bollocks - Go back to the time of Henry VIII and the Christians Church had been selling artifacts like thise you quote for years.

The antiques trade has records of thousands of items kept as Holy Relics of Christ that have been proved to be nothing of the sort.

Not only are you full of shit - from this poost I would say you are one of the most gullible people I have ever had the misprtuner to come across - even taking into account the Flat earthers, Creationists, and those who believe that politicians tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth.

POT KETTLE BLACK Mr C!

Good question! There is no difference in believing in the stuff Jesus was supposed to have done, and believing in magic!

That is an atheist slant on the question, but I was, and am, asking for the Christian perspective. Not, of course, that I am likely to get it from JC -  I will probably get nothing more than a link to some stupid poking fun at the witch post so,ewhere.

One of these days I really must find time to follow one of the links just to find out what crap is at the end of the link!

I notice the Celtic Connection uses magick not magic. I wonder why magic gets your cauldron aboilin matty.

We don't forbid it, we just don't talk about it. When our kids were young we let them decide for themselves about matters of faith, we didn't influence them either way.

I make no apology for my hatred of the evil 'born again' dogma which spoilt my childhood. I also make no apology for my dislike of that b*tch of a paternal grandmother who gave me nightmares by describing the tortures of hell to me from the age of two. That evil woman beat religion into her own children screaming, 'spare the rod and spoil the child'. She would probably be prosecuted today!

Please show the nasty namecalling.

As far as I am concerned it is you doing the name-calling.

How? Simple you use the word witch as a derogatory term.

As to the rest -

Quote - I suppose you learn that on your one line, how to be a witch, courses.
I notice the Celtic Connection uses magick not magic. I wonder why magic gets your cauldron aboilin matty "

This only shows the depth of your ignorance of what Paganism and witchcraft are and are about. I am not surprised, as your adherence to Christianity prevents you from even trying to learn what you are talking about.

Live on in your blissfull ignorance.

But, on the subject under discussion, there is no difference whatsoever between the miracles of Christ and the spells of a witch, both are using natural forces to effect a change in the material world with the assistance or aquiescence of a deity.

Ergo - Jesus Christ was a WITCH! Simple!

End of Line!

Dearest matty,
Oh I see, you can call a witch a witch, you can call yourself a witch but for me to state the fact you are a witch is offensive. Is it really an offense to state a fact?
Provide me one scripture verse where Christ had to use a natural forces. No, in every instance Christ simply commanded and it came to be. No potions, no spells, no words calling on natures help.

Sass,

What is your list supposed to show? What book is taken from?

Why does it not show Zoroastrianism, which is possibly the oldest (non-oriental if your statement is correct) monotheistic religion and the probable precurser of Judaism?

What has this to do with "language"?

Literature the oldest writings.
The  oldest  monotheistic religion which predates Zoroasriamism is Chinese.
Probably the reason why the wise men came from the East.

What has language to do with the oldest literature.

China and Hebrew literature at the top. Did you know the oldest religion which professed one God was actually Chinese.

I don't think early Chinese religions were actually monotheistic but rather had one superior overall god and various lesser gods, the number of the latter varying over time. If what you said is true I would love to see more about it. Where did the info come from?

Actually, he was born the 7th month of the Hebrew calendar mid Sept to  mid Oct.  The date was not stolen from pagans. In fact the date was stolen by Pagans when it became the birth of Christ.
The winter solstice and pagan day was the 21st December, The Easter egg is the Jewish celebration for the new life represented by an egg. It was all part of the leaving to go into the wilderness and the passover. In fact the pagans copied a lot if you research you will see there were no set days for the 25th December till after Christ.

Sassy

The fact is that artifacts cannot prove what god or false god they belonged to because they cannot speak people assume but no proof. Whereas the facts are the bible shows how languages came into being and how all people have knowledge of the one God and the flood being a worldly belief in different nations.

Christ existed... In Chester the Roman Garrison based their had records of them crucifying Christ. Something you will never get to see. Just as the Nails, the shroud and the spear kept as a witness. People don't keep things like that if they are not real.

False gods do not predate the Hebrew Faith.

Because paganism can be lumped under the one Baal.
It is the worship of nature in about every form, the male forces of course. But does not pre-date the one God faith system.

Sassy,

I think you have far to much faith in what other people tell you, rather than looking and working it out for yourself.

Sounds awful and I don't think you need to apologise to anyone.

It sounds like it's you, that needs to be apologised to.

Unfortunately there is an unpleasant side to Christianity and it certainly sounds like you got far to much of it.

Presumably you don't have an issue with basic Christian ethics?

Not all Christians seem to put an emphasis on the ethics though, it's about being born again and being saved.

My childhood experiences make me want to challenge extreme Christians who believe if you don't get 'saved' you go to hell and suffer for all eternity. I know children, the vulnerable and gullible are still suffering that sort of emotional abuse to day, and it is SO wrong, It should be illegal especially as there is not one iota of evidence any of it is true.

On the now defunct BBC  forum there was an American woman poster who boasted that she told her kids their grandmother, of whom they were fond, was burning in hell because she was an unbeliever! You have to be sick in the head to do that! ::)

Sorry - what do you mean by it came from the Armed forces?

Documents can be photographed so even if they are fragile their contents can be seen by researchers. Why isn't this possible?

Because you cannot photograph what only exists in Sassy's imagination?
You would have to get yourself and imagination before you can comment; that is an imagination free from your own fueled one sided outlook.

Talk about the pot calling the ketlle black!

Sassy - living proof that there are none so blind as those who will not see!

You are so far back in the closet of denial you are in Narnia.
No proof of anything you claim in my posts. There is simply your angst and bial showing through. I feel sorry for you that you cannot move past your own feelings to actually learn the truth with an open mind. :(

No-one, not even Hope has amind as closed as yours - if it ain't in the Bible it dodn't exists as far as you are concerened.

If your delusion wasn't put forward as religion you would end up in psychiatric care.

You mean he made watches in his retirement?

Actually he seems to have gone to quite a few places, given the number of True Spears that there have been.

Was he on watch?

In Chester the Roman Garrison based their had records of them crucifying Christ.

Would be interested in seeing more about that Sassy. Where does that info come from?

I detest the deity portrayed in the Bible that is true. If the deeds attributed to it had any truth in them humans should try to exterminate the evil piece of the proverbial. I try to do my best to help other in need!

Do you think mankind has done any better in war times and during history?

What you appear to do is believe that mankind was the same as today. When the things of the old testament came to pass God was dealing with humans who would sacrifice their own children to idols and false gods. When God dealt with the people of the OT it was because their evil surpassed anything we can do today. We still have parents who kill their children or mistreat them. What God did was get rid of such wide spread callousness and so bring mankind to a place where they can be saved and love others.

When we see the evil men did... the bible shows God dealing with evil people in their time. We see him dealing with not so evil people in our time because he got rid of the evil then.

You suggesting child killers; rapist; murderers ad paedos should not be punished?
It was different then because no one cared and no one had any conscience. There is the case where two mothers agree to eat their children.

King James Bible
So we boiled my son, and did eat him: and I said unto her on the next day, Give thy son, that we may eat him: and she hath hid her son.

You have to be able to reason and understand that they did not have processed food, not tins on shelves in supermarkets. They were horrible times where humans were evil and uncivilised.

God was the one person who in all ages knew the truth about what would eventually happen with these people. I am sure that Gods actions with the people them helped shaped and mold us into the nations we are now. You will always have those who go their own way.But you and I; we need to understand that we have what we have now and our way of life thanks to what God did then.

If that is so why did you pray to angels to give you a sign floo? Why did you write a prayer thanking the Lord? If that is so floo, why did you set up a shrine at your gate for the conned to pray at?

I can see how that is true for yourself, if you are claiming that is why you see God with those terrible characteristics. Otherwise it is an assumption based on how you see God and why you see him that way. But as God existed before you did, his existence is hardly created by you.

Matty, you can't be getting your panties in a twist after you wrote "The Christian Book of Religious Rubbish  Author Sassy", and I replied with a video mocking your witchamacallit. Play fair.

My panties are not twisted - I merely requested further information on a post by you. The days of you winding me up are long gone - fortunately I got some sage advice from others on this Forum, who dislike you and you wumming as much as I do, as to how to prevent twisted-knicker syndrome.

You relied with a video! Oh, I see you really do not READ posts, do you? You see what you want to see not what is written - if you bothered to read the posts you would see that I haven't followed up any link you have posted since the third or fouth one you posted after I joined this forum.

Play fair? - You have no understanding of the concept of fair play.

What is a Satanic exorcism? - Calling in the Devil to get the priest out of your son.

What is the difference between a Christian Priest and Acne? - Acne has the decency to wait until you are 15 before coming on your face.

I expect Matthew has heard them all before.

As it's coming up to Halloween, here's some more  ;)

Regrettably yes, many times! Some of them are so old they have beards longer than Dumbledore's.

Two small points in connection with witches:

1 - A witch is a witch is a witch - male or female both are referred to as witch.

2 - The reason for the above is that, in the Craft, warlock means traitor or oath-breaker.

Other than that, as Mr C clearly doesn't understand, unlike Christians, witches van laugh at themselves - including jokes about them!
