Title: The end for fossil fuels
Post by: Nearly Sane on September 30, 2015, 12:17:29 PM
I don't buy the premise of the article that you can link the VW scandal to an overall market move but it is an interesting perspective, and Mark Carney's comments are very interesting.

Mr. Carney being a Canadian is of course brilliant. The key word is IF. I don't believe that the world will be roped into an enforced agreement. We will have to wait and see. It is easy to say you will reduce and sign a piece of paper, the hard part is actually doing that and staying in power. It's all a joke as long as the big polluters remain big polluters.

I was rather amazed that Carney should intervene like this.   I didn't realize that the markets had been in turmoil yesterday.

Carney makes the point that this generation 'has little incentive to avert problems', if I am quoting him correctly.  In other words, it may be too late.  Watch the denialists go into hysterics.

Mark Carney is talking bollocks. It is a rues to get us all to take our eyes off the bankers and all their venal, greedy and criminal actions. To get us to pull in our belts further so the elite rich can get richer. The only threat to the financial markets are the bankers themselves, including the central banks as well.

Its interesting that Jeremy Corbyn has similarly stated that he doesn't believe that the mines ought to be reopened for coal extraction - rather suggesting that we need to be looking more seriously at green technology.

The problem with this view Jack is that it is the fossil-fuel lobby is a strong support of our economy.  Look, for instance, at the potential importance of oil revenues to any independent Scottish economy.

Did you actually listen to what Carney said? He said global warming will be a threat to the markets unless we do something about it, as I commented what a load of bollocks.
