I once read Lord Reith's biography. After the BBC he was at a bit of an end. Concerned with his welfare many in the establishment stated that 'he must be found a role''.
Has Nigel Farage reached that position among the celebrity wing of the great and good where he needs to be found a role?....and if so what role.
-
Yes, definitely - boot polisher to the masses.
He is an embarrassment to the term 'politician', seems to have no idea what damage Brexit will do to the UK, and spent a lot of his time lying to the British people before the referendum (promises he either denied making, or turned on their heads within hours of the result being announced).
-
I will refrain from saying, "Ham or cheese".
He could promote high quality British made goods abroad, maybe? Morgan cars spring to mind but they are probably not sufficiently 'out there' (and now someone will tell me they are no longer made in the UK).

Our local council need a cleaner for the public conveniences - after two years you get a brush.

Since we are still stuck with the nonsense of the monarchy - surely the position of official Court Jester is unfilled: Farage is the obvious candidate.
Plus, since the BBC are nauseatingly grovelling to these royal hangers-on, I reckon the costume once worn by the guy in Rentaghost (all those years ago) could now be put to good use.
-
Much though I despise the Windsor soap opera, I wouldn't inflict that numpty on them.
-
While I dislike Farage, he successfully represents the views of millions, the thread seems a bit of the much talked of 'echo chambers' from the Brexit votes and the US election. Like it or not, the Nige is in a good place currently.
-
If so, he doesn't need to find a role, he already has one.
However admittedly the thread does have echoes but I think it is intended to be lighthearted.

Even so, Jim, wouldn't you love to see him in the costume - at least he'd be appropriately attired.

Now: where to stick the bladder on a stick?
Oh, the possibilities......

Lighthearted to those who all agree on something can read as a patronising ignorance to many who might follow Farage.
-
OK - place him in the same role as David Coburn, then, NS - and give him the same respect due Coburn as well.
-
To NS: I suppose so. It cuts both ways though, Farage supporters would take the mick out us if the situation was reversed.
However you make a good point. There's no point (sorry)in appearing to be bad losers.
It'll die down.

Reality check:
" ... among the celebrity wing of the great and good ... " Nigel Farage?
It has been suggested by Nigel Farage himself that he could be a liaison between the UK government and the new USA administration.
Nigel Farage is a self-appointed populist rabble rouser who has achieved some success in this role. He has no great experience as a politician, other than as a single issue advocate, and no experience at all as a diplomat. Indeed, in view of his confrontational behaviour as MEP and somewhat disturbing characterisation of the current president of the USA it would seem doubtful that he has any diplomatic skills at all. He has no appreciable knowledge of American constitutional politics and law.
In terms of the knowledge, understanding and skills required to perform this kind of role he would appear to be a non-starter.
His previous occupation was that of employed gambler and he possesses no higher education qualification. I see no reason why there needs to be any great need for him to have any role anywhere than there was for the late Mandy Rice Davies.

Just as I suspected - Farage should be burnt at the stake.

That doesn't stop him from being a turd.

Show me a good loser and I'll show you a loser.
Let's stop with this pressure on people to stop complaining about bad decisions.

Wrong. Brexit was a vote to leave the EU. If your reason for voting Brexit was because you genuinely thought we'd be better off out of the EU then I can respect that, but if your reason for voting Brexit was because you wanted to spite me and people like me then, you're a stupid irresponsible idiot.

Explain.
On the basis of this kind of reply and the thread on "Islamification" you appear to have concerns about the modern world. Despair is a very grave state of mind. I hope that you are only using it rhetorically. If not, then you may have issues.
I note that the Oxford Dictionary "Word of the Year" is "post-truth". Post-truth is an adjective which considers conditions in which objective facts are less influential in determining opinion than emotion. Are you a "post-truther"? If so, you won't be the only one on this board.

you are correct HH it was rhetorical and as for 'post- truthers' we have a problem.

although I do have concerns about the modern world, as you put it.

I think one of the issues surrounding Farage is that, and while no doubt he is an effective self-publicist, he is portrayed by the some sections of the media as being important on a UK-wide basis as opposed to just being locally important in areas where UKIP have some support and is seen as a potential threat by other parties.
I can't speak for my fellow Scots of course, but here in Scotland UKIP are pretty much a fringe party so the prominence Farage does get in UK media (such as the BBC) is disproportionate to the relevance of UKIP here in Scotland. We have our very own UKIP clown of course, by the name of Coburn, but he doesn't have much in the way of even local prominence (apart from when he makes an utter fool of himself: he has a talent for that).

do you know what, Gordon, reading your post has made me realise that I don't think UKIP when I hear his name. I don't mentally make the connection . for me he is an entity on his own . Strange, don't you think?

I have the opposite view, Walter: for me UKIP and Farage are interchangeable terms - possibly because UKIP without Farage have a low profile here.

Much as I find Farage deeply odious, I don't think that should be a reason for him to be banned from being a peer. Sure we might him and UKIP appalling, but he has been leader of that party, which has gained 10% plus of votes in elections and he has been a pond-standing elected MEP (and currently still is). Considering others who have been elevated to a peerage, I don't think there is an objective reason (rather that the subjective I can't stand him) for his exclusion.

Are you really so blinkered as to fail to see how many, many people see Farage. In pretty well every respect he stands for everything I loathe - little Englander, backward looking, petty nationalism. And on a personal level he is clearly borderline racist, deeply misogynist, anti the equality agenda and clearly a control freak who can't stand anyone else having the limelight. He comes across as a bully and shows a clear lack of respect for those who have different views. Finally I cannot stand his carefully constructed attempt to appear as the 'man of the people' on the side of ordinary folk, when he is quite clearly entirely the reverse - in others a figure of the extreme establishment elite and with a reactionary right wing agenda that would benefit people like him at the expense of ordinary folk.
Do I need to go on!!!

yep, I agree with a number of those things plus many more things you don't mention. and NO I am not BLINKERED.
I simply see the world differently from you and that does not give you or anyone else the right to think my critical thinking skills are inferior to yours.

No, it is an excellent quote because it replies succinctly to a question you asked. That it contains a view with which you do not agree, does not reduce its quality.

I think after an economic crash, you often get demagogues. The ones on the right tend towards white nationalism, and scapegoat minorities, such as Jews and Muslims. They are usually misogynistic, and offer half-baked economic solutions, which don't add up.
On the bright side, Farage is not a fascist. I think the economy is too robust for that, but if there was another crash or a long depression, he would probably be replaced by the real thing. Let's hope the 30s are not being repeated.

I hear that Nigel Farrage is to be on Radio 4's Any Questions this evening.
-
Prime Minister.
Well the GBP have stymied that. Because they loved FPTP there was no way he could get a representative number of seats and because there were too many tories in Thanet he couldn't get a parliamentary seat.
As he would say the people have spoken and he must ''gerrover it!''
I think what you say though is indicative of a vague hope that Farage might achieve high office through some kind of irresistible public acclaim.
-
Prime Minister.
This is typical cultural imperialism. They export their television, their hamburgers, their music. They want us to like their pansy version of rugby.
Now you want us follow them politically and elect an arsehole fuckwit for our leader.

I think certain Faragistas want to set up some group to change the UK to a ''direct democracy''........ To which we will be entitled to ask each other ''who the fuck elected you?''

Was watching the Andrew Marr Show this morning, and it was suggested by Peter Hitchens of the Mail on Sunday that the famous post-election picture of Trump and Farage is a fake - in that the guy who it claims to be Trump looks more like a Trump-double.
