I remember hearing him being interviewed once, not so long ago, and he seemed well aware that he wasn't the most talented of actors, knew his limitations and made the best use of what he did have - and didn't take himself too seriously as an actor.

By all accounts though a decent and caring man - one of the cable channels is re-running 'The Persuaders' at present (where he was paired with Tony Curtis) and I watched an episode the other night just for the nostalgia: I've seen worse.
