Title: Students in Dublin sing from Hindu texts
Post by: Sriram on September 13, 2017, 06:30:32 AM
Hi everyone,

Here is a video in which the students of a school in Dublin sing the slokas of Adi Shankaracharya (the Advaita philosopher of 700 CE). The english subtitles are useful.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yxNAmMhIhLE

It outlines the Vedantic philosophy very well.  Pantheism..Solipsism. Not exactly religion....quite secular!

Hope you find it interesting.

Cheers.

Nice to know that children in the West are learning such matters.  About time!

Why is it?

Why is it?

From what I have seen...people in the West are exposed largely to religions and myths (mainly Abrahamic religions). Secular spiritual philosophies have been largely ignored or considered as alien (eastern).   It has mainly been a either or....Religion vs Science option.

I think it is important that children are also exposed to such matters as in the OP so that they can see that spirituality is not opposed to science and does not depend on the validity of religious mythology.
