My younger daughter, along with the vegetarians, eats the vegetarian option at school even though we pay the same for school lunches as everyone else. I know a few British schools offer halal and kosher e.g. Dulwich College. My older daughter can opt out of paying for school lunch for the year and can either take her own lunch or can buy lunch items when she wants - really over-priced though and they are not big portions.
I think most schools in the UK have a vegetarian option - is vegetarian food a more expensive option than meat? If not, if this French school is too strapped for cash to cook 2 meals and wants to be inclusive it can cook only vegetarian food, as everyone can eat that - apart from maybe vegans...
Or as the mayor said, if there is a lack of money, cater for the majority of tax payers and unfortunately penalise the minority - so people bring their own lunch if they can't eat the lunch provided even though their taxes go towards funding school lunches.

Same, my kids have a vegetarian option at school and so do their Muslim friends. Their school also offers a soup and bread option and a salad bar with both meat and veggie dishes.

I expect vegetarians (doubt there are any though) would also have to take in their own lunches at that school. The Muslim families should get together to provide suitable lunches and continue to complain.
