I thought there were rules and procedures for dismissal..........Put up or shut up.

WTF
What are you on this morning - or maybe you HAVEN'T taken it yet, dear ?!?!!? ;) ;D

Maybe the planet is trying to shock us all out of our unbelievable complacency over our treatment of it:

YES Indeed !!!
This is what I'm on about too.

As with e.g. Grenfell ?

My understanding is that an, or the, investigation is still underway.

As god was supposed to have created everything, including humans, anything we do wrong is down to the original designer.

Nah - there must be a get out clause written into the contract.
It'll be to do with fruit or a snake or a tree or something.

How can you sack someone you don't believe exists?

I'm not an atheist !!!
HAH THAT got ya, eh ????

Growing - #1 is back for his final year at University, #2 turns 18 before Christmas, #3 is cutting teeth, and #4 is planned for the middle of next year!
Got a house move to fit in next month, too... busy, busy, busy! :)

So human beings can just sit back and blame whatever is responsible for their cause, for anything they do?

Under the terms of your worldview - as outlined by Floo - then yes.
-

I don't think so.
Whatever caused human beings is responsible for what human beings do, if Floo is going to reason in the way she is, otherwise she is just being inconsistent.
Alternatively, she can grow up and take some responsibility for her actions ...

Of course I take responsibility for my own actions, as I don't believe any god created us or exists.

That's what grownups have to do, not children who think they've been naughty but can get off scot-free by shouldering off the blame onto somebody else.

good gracious! Are we seeing SotS actually acknowledging the Theory of Evolution?
Alternatively, she can grow up and take some responsibility for her actions ...
But here we are back to the implication that of course he, SotS, is in a privileged position because he believes he is closer to the myth called God and therefore believes he has a better understanding of how humans are.

The planet has no consciousness. God doesn't exist. All of these natural disasters are just the way of the Universe (OK, so the hurricanes may well have some human input).
-
I wonder how many weather related natural disasters it will take before people, like Trump, who are in denial about global warming, will get real and realise human activity is having an impact?
-

How many weather events should it take to show human activity having an effect on climate?

I would have thought these recent terrible hurricanes might have got people like Trump thinking, but I guess not.

I would have thought that if anybody deserved sacking it should be the designer of Venus.

Individual weather events even groups of them won't work as arguments. Indeed I suspect they will work as part of the Dunning Kruger effect to confirm that climate change is wrong. Rather as they work for you to confirm that anthropogenic climate change is right despite that being a non rational approach
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dunning%E2%80%93Kruger_effect
-
How many weather events should it take to show human activity having an effect on climate?
That's actually a very good question.
In fact, it is impossible to say any particular weather event is down to climate change. Even a cluster of three hurricanes isn't really evidence.
What is good evidence of climate change is the observed fact that the climate is changing. For example global sea temperature is rising extremely fast.
Update this was posted before I read your most recent post.
-
There seems to be quite a lot of evidence global warming due to human activity is affecting our weather, and warming up the Arctic and Antarctic oceans. Surely it is sensible to try to do something about it, if possible, before it is too late, even if we haven't definite proof of manmade global warming. By the time verifiable evidence is available future generations might be cursing us for not having prevented it whilst we still could do so.

Am sure you are not unique in that. Possibly it could be the explanation behind the Fermi paradox.

wasn't aware the Fermi paradox was concerned with climate change ?
-
Not climate change per se. But I would not be surprised if advanced societies all reached a point where they no longer cared about the effects of their own technology on the future of their environment or about their long term survival.
If so they would tend to become extinct prior to contact with civilisations in other systems.

an excellent point. I would also like to think they didn't or don't have to contend with ridiculous religious views as we do here which has slowed down scientific discoveries by hundreds of years in our case.

Why? This is going to cause massive disruption and harm to millions, perhaps billions, of people around the globe in the coming decades - I can understand 'I don't know what to do about it', I can understand 'I can't make a difference', but I fail to understand 'I don't care'.

It would be nice if people didn't leave it to that point. Given the inherent stupidity, selfishness and short-termism of most people, however, It's going to be the stick rather than the carrot for H. sapiens.

I think that depends on how the other half are 'removed' if it's by a set of huge disasters, and changes in how we can and where we can live - it's pretty likely that it will be much less pleasant.

why's that? you should put more trust into the engineers and scientists, I mean , Little Fat Un of North Korea could be the savior of the human race!

Oh yeah! But in combination with the Big Fathead in Washington they could be the end of humanity, not just civilisation.
And wouldn't the Ultra-Christians be happy about that - the Biblical Apocalypse occurring as prophesied 2,000 years ago!
Telling us others how we should have listened to them - I don't fancy going to the Summerlands with a chorus of Christian 'told you so's' ringing in my ears!
Are you American by the way?

Except that very, very few of us are going to be here at this point, the consequences of this are going to devastate regions in forty or fifty or sixty years, when decades of altered climate have completely altered local ecosystems. We'll all be dead, or close to, and our descendants will be the ones to suffer.

Which knowledge? That we'll all be likely dead or close to in a few decades is fairly well-established precedent. That climate change will have a devastating effect on a number of ecosystems around the world is well-supported, well-documented, mainstream science.

well pardon me , how many decades is a few ? and I don't really care how many are left, I'll be long gone and so will you.
Perhaps you would like me to cry for all the unborn baybees .C'mon, grow up , we all know what the immediate threat to OUR civilisation is and its not climate change!
-

I'm alright, Jack, so f*ck 'em? Nice. My children will likely still be around, if I needed a personal stake, but I'm not sure that I do. How many million people have to be affected before it becomes significant enough to worry about even though I'll only likely be lightly affected myself?
C'mon, grow up , we all know what the immediate threat to OUR civilisation is and its not climate change!
There are any number of threats to our civilisation - ignoring the longer term one to address the short term one is short-sighted. If they're both threats, they both need to be addressed - notwithstanding that Captain Orange McTwatwaffle and his anti-science deplorable deployment is a significant element of both.
O.

there is one immediate threat that no one seams to be doing anything about (including me) which is on our doorstep every day , you know , the short sighted one that could blow you to bits on a pleasant day out, that I'm concerned about .
Global climate change can wait a bit .

No, unfortunately, it can't. If we don't act very soon it will be too late, and the actions we need to take are neither quick to implement nor easy to arrange.

So efforts to combat global warming include, but aren't limited to, switching away from fossil fuels. Those fossil fuels are a major part of the economic might of the radical Islamists that are sponsoring state terrorism that is threatening London and other major western centres of culture. Two birds that you can't be bothered to kill with one stone...

But the overall risk to you daughter and any child of her's is likely to far out weigh what your incorrect estimation of the risk, due to your already seen problem with the availability fallacy. If over 50 years something wipes out 50% of the population and creates problems for most of the rest that is far more worrying for your daughter than something you have shown you hugely overestimate the risk on.

To be honest, Walter can't carry on with this. He is a fictitious character who tends to say the opposite of what I actually think. So for now , on this thread at least , I've got the better of him

If Man had made the earth it simply would not exist now.

NO! What is being said is that, in all probability, man, not being totally meglomaniac and vindictive towards his creation would, have done a damn sight better job of it from day one.

Yes, you might have made a better job of it....but what about Fred West? or Ian Brady? or Ronnie Kray?
-
I'm not entirely convinced it isn't already too late.
It is not too late, especially considering the recent revisions in the climate models. Anyway even small reductions will (or should) have significant effects over the next 50 years.
Another point is that the worse the effects of climate change are - the more the population will grow, amplifying the effects of lack of timely action.
-
You seriously cannot be comparing humans abilities to God?

You've misread my post ?!?!?
We're all on about the earth as it is NOW. A bloody mess - so WHOSE fault is THAT then ???

I said a better job; I did NOT say a PERFECT job! Which is, of course, what is claimed for the so-called Almighty God! Fred West, Ian Brady, Myra Hindley, Reggie and Ronnie and Charley Kray, Adolf Hitler, Stalin, Jack the Ripper, etc, etc, etc - if God's creation is supposed to be perfect these people are all proof that He screwed up big-time!
God is perfect? Like F*** he is! He's not even close! And that is before we start on the diseases he inflicts upon children, some of them within hours of birth!

Oh come on Trippy!
You know exactly who she is going to blame.
The non-Christians who are the servants and agents of Satan - the useless ones who have rejected God's perfect love and are destroying God's perfect creation!
The ones who have decided that there is no God; the ones who have decided that there are other Gods, and Goddesses, more worthy of our attention than hers.
Basically anyone who does not believe as she does.
