Andrew Sullivan is a writer I disagree with frequently but I think there is a chord struck in the second article in the piece below.

I had a discussion on this topic with my daughter, the younger one, as one of my nephews has just started treatment as MTF transgender.
The original LGBT pressure group was a hardworking group of people who knew exactly for whom they were working. Unfortunately, mostly from America, the number of definitions applied to sexuality exploded as, so it seemed, every single person wanted their own definition of their gender/sexuality.
Most of the LGBT people that I know, and I know more than a few, have dissociated themselves from any group affiliated to the LGBT+++++++++++++++++++ organisation, if it can be so described with even a modicum of accuracy, and are living quietly in peaceful obscurity and enjoying the help, care and treatment, medical etc, that they need, having left, as one FTM trans put it, all the political bollocks behind as it is mostly run by Cis people.

I think the issues are very different. No one is jailed for being asexual or demisexual as such.

Just want to note that I like seeing the word ‘perfervidly’ used.

TBH I consider that those who insist on describing themselves as "Queer" are closet heterosexuals who just want to appear to be part of the latest craze.

Errrr I think different sexual identities have been around for a while.
Given that Agatha Christie used the term ‘queer’ I’m not sure who would think adopting it meant that they were getting down with the kids.
