Title: Alternative Versions
Post by: Humph Warden Bennett on December 16, 2017, 10:55:40 PM
OK here is the Official Version

https://youtu.be/IgYzJDxxzN8

Our 1968 version was

"Whilst shepherds washed their socks by night
All eating fish and chips
The angel of the lord came down
And charged them five and six"

(I first heard this from my classmate Richard Shute, I hope that he and his family are well)

While shepherds watch their socks by night all watching ITV,
The angel of the lord came down
And switched to BBC.

The version with which I am familiar is:-

"Whilst shepherds washed their socks by night
All seated round the tub
The angel of the Lord came down
And taught them how to scrub."

I think we had Sunlight soap when I was a child.

It was usually used with a scrubbing board.

It was usually used with a scrubbing board.

My mother had a washing machine so I am not sure what it was used for.

While shepherds boated on the Cam
One fell out of the punt
The Angel of the Lord said Damn!
You are a stupid idiot.

I can't quite get the last line right.

Not sure how serious you are but...

The failure to scan was deliberate as was the failure to rhyme. So what I need is a one syllable word that rhymes with punt. Any ideas?

Hmmm, may have dissected the frog here.

And of course there's the Vicar Of Dibley version...

While shepherds watched their flocks by night
All seated on the bank
The angel of the Lord came down
And taught them how to...er...

I was serious based on what I saw.

A) 6 syllables looks like the correct form.
B) then I suggested an end line in line with your attempt with the requisite number.

Not sure of the context but...
Front, shunt, brunt, blunt, grunt, hunt, cunt, stunt?

...or maybe I have!?  :-\
