I've always gone for the 'breathe in' followed by 'breathe out', and then 'repeat' approach - wonder what I'm doing wrong.
I blame my soul of course, which I'm told interacts with my biology, for getting it wrong and making me an atheist: which is odd when you think of it, since I'd have thought my soul would be more effective in ensuring I didn't stray into atheism - I may as well not have a soul for all the good it is doing me!

And just when you think you have heard everything! ;D
When I go to bed one breathing exercise I do find quite useful in order to help me sleep, is to breath in and out to the count of ten about ten times. It doesn't always work, but often it does.

... there's religion.

Pranayama or breathing techniques are a part of Yoga. They are good for general health, reducing the heart rate, BP and for calming the mind. They are excellent for depression, agitation, anger, anxiety and other mental issues.
Whether it will cure atheism is doubtful because Yoga itself is not necessarily theistic. It is secular and can even be considered atheistic in the sense that it focuses on Self development and not on finding God.
Self development however includes progressively moving towards a universal higher level of Consciousness. In that sense, pranayama can be considered as helping us in finding 'God'......since 'God' in Hinduism is a higher level of Consciousness that exists within us.

Atheism is NOT a condition which needs curing, it is as valid as belief, if not more so as no evidence can be produced to support the existence of any god.

There's no need to be so scathing. Sririam's beliefs are as important to him as yours are to you & he is at least interesting. He doesn't just sneer.
-
If regarding critical, rational, sceptical thought as an adolescent trait - something he's repeated a number of times - isn't sneering, I'm not entirely sure what counts as sneering.

Thanks for that Robbie! :)
But you know that I am quite used to these folk here. Nothing makes any dent. It is like trying to convince a stubborn blind man about the existence of Light...it doesn't work. I have to keep trying, I guess. But it is not easy. Sad...actually! :(
Maybe they should indeed try some breathing exercises. It might trigger off some suppressed faculties in the brain....and they might actually 'see' those realities that seem to be hidden from them.
Cheers.

Leave him alone Floo, his science magazine has reduced its size over christmas, a bit like the way our newspapers do, so it leaves him with a lot less of a selection of 'Did you know', type articles for him to choose from.
Merry Newton's day Sriram, ippy

I think she was replying to this: "That sounds really interesting, really really interesting, would you like to see my collection of used teabags?" which didn't appear to exhibit 'critical, rational, sceptical thought '.

...... as the blind man said to the deaf woman.

I've got a Fitbit watch which does exactly this. I don't think that it carries any endorsement from any guru or any branch of any mystic philosophy.
I got it from Argos.
