And why it is against scripture

FFS
It’s enough to induce a purple haze.

Is this something to do with those popular music groups the youngsters are so keen on these days?
-
I fear so! I think they follow the 'pop chart' via the wireless radio!

It is utterly bizarre: the idea that 'Christian Rock', which must an oxymoron, is in any sense edgy is just nonsense: anodyne would be better adjective. The 'rock beat' is also nonsense since there is no such thing.
I liked this bit:
“I started listening to ‘Christian contemporary’ (rock) music when I was twelve. At this time I was attending a private Christian school, and there my friends all listened to it. The pressure was great, so I started to listen to some of their tapes once in a while.
“I became hooked. It may be hard to believe, but that music made me think sensuous thoughts, and the beat made me want to sway and dance like the world. After this I started to listen to ‘Christian contemporary’ music all the time, and even though my parents didn’t like it, I got some tapes of my own to listen to.
This must be where Lou Reed got his inspiration for 'Walk on the Wild Side' from - or not.

Garbage - not the group. I've listened to CCM and Christian rock for thirty-odd years. Just like mainstream, some is trash, some is good, somee is frankly brilliant....but nothing in either rock or Christian rock has done anything to shake my faith. One country folk Christian artixt I like - because some of his stuff gets to the heart, and some more cuts the rip-off mwerchants of the 'prosperity Gospel' shower down to size, is Don Fransisco. Yes, the music's a bit simplistic, but his lyrics are usually spot on. I wish I could find this on Youtube - I can't - but here are lyrics to a song about this kind of thing. I have it on CD, by the way. https://genius.com/Don-francisco-freedom-to-move-lyrics

That is truly awful - a sort of demented ska: I'm sure I'll end up having nightmares about this.

I was brought up on rock music, e.g.early Elvis Presley, Jerry Lee Lewis, Little Richard, Chuck Berry, the Everly Brothers, Brenda Lee, Fats Domino, Connie Francis. Of course some of these artists had Christian influences, but it was the rock music that the teenagers of that time liked. It was our music, not the music of our parents. The more they disliked it, the more we took to it. Did it have a bad effect upon us? I doubt it. In my case, it led me on to be interested in American blues music, and jazz, especially New Orleans and Big Band jazz.
A lot of my musical tastes are expressed in what I think was a fantastic film 'The Blues Brothers' which did have a sort of Christian theme, but, for me, it was the music that made it.
