If this story is true the church members are a bunch of evil psychos who should be prosecuted and the church closed. >:(

Here's a link that works: Blackwell, Oklahoma church members purportedly pin man down to “pray the gay away” (https://www.gayly.com/blackwell-oklahoma-church-members-purportedly-pin-man-down-%E2%80%9Cpray-gay-away%E2%80%9D)

I apologise, I should have checked the link first.

Awful.
America of course, hope there's nothing like that here.

I think there are churches here in the UK who try to 'cure' gays, though maybe not in the extreme way that awful church in the US went about it.

One can only assume that some neanderthals have been hibernating these last 50,000 years or so and have recently re-emerged in order to attend this church in Oklahoma.
I'm sure though that reasonable and nuanced Christians everywhere will find this kind of thing utterly appalling, and angry that their faith is being devalued by this kind of idiocy.

What an insult to neanderthals!

Yes there are.

Plenty of calls for it to be banned here; T.May wanted to do that.
This (in Australia) is 'orrible:

Neanderthals aren't confined to Oklahoma, the Neanderthal in Chief resides in Washington and would probably approve of their action. >:(

It's all so depressing and familiar.
When are these people ever going to let go of hatred and just let others get on with their lives in the best way they can.
It's as if there is indeed a pool of Neanderthal genes (altho I think Gordon may be doing Neanderthals a disservice) that will never, ever go away.
I sometimes allow myself the thought that things are getting better, and then I hear about some LGBT people being bullied, spat on, abused verbally and physically and I have to clamp right down on those optimistic views.
-
I hereby apologise to all Neanderthals, both living and dead, and will simply observe that these people are beneath contempt.
-
I apologise to Neanderthals too. :-[

Indeed

Letting others get on with their lives without interference is not normal behaviour in humans

Of-course. We all have between 2-4% genes inherited from Neanderthals, a proportion that will not change to any significant extent. In addition there is a much larger proportion shared with ancestors common to both modern humans and Neanderthals

Things get "better" when humans come to agreements about what is actually better - and put systems in place to achieve the agreed outcomes. This has been happening over the last 20,000 years and so things have slowly been getting better.
It is just not realistic to expect love and understanding to suddenly break out world-wide.

Things are getting better. When I was born, gay sex was still illegal. These incidents still happen, but most people find them completely unacceptable. I'm not trying to tell you everything is perfect, it clearly isn't, but it is better than it used to be.

I am aware of the progress made. It just doesn't feel secure to me, especially with the country in such a divided state. It wouldn't take much for politicians to weaponise issues for their own advantage. Indeed I believe Boris has already discussed targeting the trans community to appeal to more traditional voters in the North.

Things seemed to have been getting better for gays for a while, but in the last year or two there appears to have been much more anti-gay bigotry in plain sight. That sicko in the White House seems to be encouraging it in his country, just as the far right nutters are doing here in the UK.
-
The problem these people seem to have with gay people is a bit like another grouping, racists, where say the ambulance turns up to hopefully save the life of the white supremacist's child and a black medical assistant steps out, substitute the black with a gay person?

What a novel idea.

What a novel idea.
It's just another way of presenting or demonstrating how totally brain dead racism is and similarly homophobia.
