Title: 'Christian' con artists
Post by: Roses on February 22, 2020, 12:10:25 PM
I am disgusted by con artists claiming to be Christians who take in the gullible with a convincing spiel, which ensures they part with their cash to keep those sewer rats in the style to which they have become accustomed. Many TV Evangelists are scammers, as are the so called 'healers' like the ghastly Benny Hinn.  At present 'Trump' is conning the US Christian extremists, by pretending to believe in their unpleasant dogmas so he can secure himself another four years in office.

Some Christians appear to be no better than secular clairvoyants when they claim god/Jesus is actually talking  to them and passing on messages to their followers, which is often another method of lining their own pockets.

Before a certain poster jumps down my throat, of course there are good Christians who wouldn't dream of doing any of those things, but sadly there are too many of the other sort, especially across the pond.

When did you ever go yo a meeting of these "scammers and con-artists" or go for healing?
Do you think any country can survive a godless governing body with no care for their citizens welfare?  Just think piling people on a boat till it sank. What good becomes of such ships passengers
or a nations? Power and politics are fueled with greed. It produces need and the nations people become even more needier.   Your attitude is the one they all bank on because it is the attitude which says " I am alright Jack, sod the rest". But once everyone is on board with your attitude they pull the rug under your feet and you become like those you have allowed to become poorer and guess what... the safety net you removed for those others is now not there for yourself. What would the governing people say when you complained? " You voted it in and supported it".
You see however life comes across survival is about looking out for each other and the best way of supporting others.  You will reap what you sow.

Most Christian ministries you mention actually spend their money on the poor of this world.
Look up Operation blessing 700 club. Look up Benny Hinn Charity  missions and where the money of his ministry is spent. They don't sit at home complaining they are helping people everywhere
including natural disasters to rebuild their homes and lives.  Why do not speak about these things? Truth is your only interested in what you believe and what you believe is wrong. But when you actually look at the reality of what these ministries do.... it is never about lining a pocket it is about helping others and sharing the truth about Christ.

Good Christians by your standards or by Gods?  So these Christians who would not dream of sending aid to children dying and saving those who were hit by deadly forces of nature. Who are they because someone needs to tell them that sharing the things God has given is pact and parcel of being a Christian, helping others with what we have left.

I have had a lot more experience of these people than you that is obvious. The money the con artists I have in mind is spent on them, not for the greater good.

If you believe this to be so. Then the gang are all here, give these experiences and name these con-artists or are you making empty claims?

I have named them. If you look up TV evangelists on-line you will see a host of scandals connected with quite a number of them.

L R, I can't think of any one person that might have been conned by religion at the moment, even though I know it must be a very difficult question to ask of you but can you think of someone that might have been conned by religion?

Regards, ippy.

I know of Christians on-line and in reality who have been gullible enough to fall for these con artists. My late Great aunt was one who was conned out of thousands of £s by Oral Roberts' spiel. It was only when her family realised what was going on that the plug was pulled.

I'm glad that you put "Christian" in inverted commas in the thread title, thus acknowledging that that is not true Christian behasviour.

Indeed. But as is shown above, some "so-called" Christians are ready to condone and defend the actions of these snake oil salesmen people.

What is your definition of  'Christian' behaviour, it seems to come in many shapes and forms?

Why on earth would you equate a country with a 'godless' government with one that has no care for their citizens welfare.

I think you'll find that many of the countries with the best citizens welfare (e.g. Scandinavian countries) are also ones with some of the lowest proportions of religious people.

Countries where religion rules the roost are not good places in which to live.

Billy Graham among others! And all the others who were exposed a few years back!

Go back a few years and look at the TV preachers who lived in multimillion-dollar designer homes from their viewer's donations who are no longer preaching.

But, you, I know, would deny fraud by a Christian fraud even as he was taking your purse from your handbag,

You are as big a mug as the ones that L R is talking about because your mugger, if he ever lived, (and there is no reliable documentary proof that he did), died 2000 years ago and you are still giving him and his cohorts your money every Sunday on the collection plate!

If I have it wrong, I apologise to you!

There was some, shall we call it 'unpleasantness', connected with his last trip and his Crusade at Wembley - but it was a long time ago -  if I'm wrong, as I say, I will apologise to you - to others - - - -

When I was a counsellor to the 'Mission Glasgow' rallies of the 1990's, we were specifically told not to be involved with faith healing; should  an enquirer ask for help, we were told that, yes, we could pray with them, but that was as far as it went. Villy Graham was definately no advocate of the televangelist 'put-your-hand-on-the-TV-screen-and-your-money-in-the-post' rubbish.

Graham wasn't to my taste of course, but I think he was the better ones of the breed. His son, Franklin, is an evangelist and an extremely nasty piece of work by all accounts. >:(

My late brother-in-law and his wife, who were both Christians of the born again ilk, went to see a performance by Benn Hinn when in the US years ago. They were unimpressed by him and thought he was a conman.

When it came to those mission campaigns, finances were handled by an independent committee of local churches, expenses payed to the  BGEA usually corresponded to business rates for such venues plus a small fee equivalent to 'Pulpit supply' for a preacher in the local area.
All profits from the rallies were divided amongst local charities - this having been agreed before the campaign. The charities were not necessarily Christian, by the way.
The accounts for the rallies were published three months after the campaign, having been indipendently audited.

Billy Graham, really? Very much doubt he would have been invited to the Queen's home for tea.
You again jump on the band wagon with not actual evidence just and if they had committed fraud they would have been imprisoned. You see in this country 'fraud' has to proved.
You can make accusations but people who mix with royalty and even presidents require a home fit enough to host such people.

MUG... DO you really believe you have shown anything but what you want to believe and not something you believe because of proof. As for Christ living, of course there is proof. Look in the popes own library there are books preserved that will never see the light of day. But more importantly the truth is "You do not want to believe whether Christ exists and was the Son of God." Historians believe because like any other person in history it was seen by the people of that time and historians too. I understand you do not believe that Christ is the Son of God and died for sin. I understand you choose that. Your attitude towards myself or other believers is totally uncalled for and unjustified.

READ 19 AND 21 ABOVE - or are you blind as well as blinkered!

At least I try to admit and apologise for my mistakes instead of posting screeds a mile long from the Bible to try and cover them up!

Wee point of correction. Billy Graham met Lizzie Windsor a few times, Sass - one of those was in 1991, when she invited him to tea at Holyroodhouse, alongside the moderator of the General assembly of the Kirk of that yeart, and the RC Archbishop of Glasgow.

All you've said so far is "if I'm wrong, I apologise". How about just saying "I apologise", with no qualification? If even LR can admit that Billy Graham was honest and above-board, it shouldn't be too hard for you.
