Title: Pastafarianism? Harmless fun?
Post by: Walt Zingmatilder on July 11, 2020, 09:15:30 AM
First of all I have not come to bury the FSM but to praise him initially. His good attributes are that he seems to be a supreme being monotheistic in tone. Secondly, if his attributes are metaphorical, then what could be more loving than comfort from a noodly appendage?

So in a way it is a shame pastafarians have gone all that way to build a fond picture of God and not believe in it.

Of course that was never the motivation.
If Pastafarians therefore think that people with religion are intellectually challenged or psychologically impaired then pastafarianism is just a case of mocking the afflicted.

The original idea of the FSM was as a mockery of the ideas intelligent design and creationism. On that level it seems perfectly fair.

Was it that specific. It seems like a parody religion rather than targeting specific aspects of an American form of christianity.

Doesn't matter. The original idea was to mock the ideas of ID and creationism.

Pastafarianism got out of hand a bit.

A bit like Mary's explanation for her pregnancy, really.
