In so far as gossip encourages the spread of dangerous, bonkers conspiracy theories, he's probably right.

Surely the 'Devil' is exactly a dangerous, bonkers, conspiracy theory?

Perhaps we could ask the supporters of QAnon. They seem to have got the devil sorted. ;)
