Title: Father Josef Stalin S.J.
Post by: Walt Zingmatilder on December 01, 2020, 08:20:44 AM
What would have happened if Stalin had remained a priest in the Catholic church?
What would have happened if he had been an atheist from the start?

Probable internal war within the elite of the politbeaurau; whether any of the 'great and the good' would have had the personality to dominate is moot.
Whoever succeeded Lenin - I'd have thought Malenkov - would have continued his slightly softer forms of Soviet Socialism; perhaps the pogroms of the 1920's might have been limited, the military not emasculated by most of its' officers being executed - and it might have been stronger by 1939, limiting Hitler's insane ambition - and possibly threateming these islands with the invasion.
Howzat for speculation?

He was never a priest, wasn't in the RCC, so would never have been a Jesuit. If you want to do alternative histories then get the  basics right about the one that happened

Sorry.....Am I right though that after abandoning training for Christian priesthood and christianity he became a mass repressor , ordered mass executions, mass deportations, and his policies lead to wide scale famine?

Yes, obviously. He trained for the Russian Orthodox priesthood for  year or two, but was never ordained. Is this some ridiculous attempt to suggest that if he'd remained a priest he'd've been kind and innocent? ("led", btw.)

I don’t think the opening post suggests anything other than being a straight question. But since you have brought it up I think he would have been a big bastard in a small pond rather than a huge bastard in a huge pond.
