As with Oscars and the regular Baftas and similar awards, I can't see where they've got this from - Lara Croft's day was long ago, but Mario, Pikachu and Sonic are still titanic game presences to this day, and have successfully branched out into other media in ways that Tomb Raider hasn't.

BAFTA has revealed the results of its landmark players’ poll to establish the Most Iconic Video Games Character of All Time. Launched to celebrate the 20th BAFTA Games Awards on Thursday 11 April, the poll was engaged with by over 4,000 players from all over the world.
