On Easter Saturday I watched 18 men rowing two boats up the River Thames to see who could do it the fastest. Apparently, they had all been training several hours a day through the cold and dark winter months for the privilege.

And yet, we do not say that they take it too seriously - well, most of us don't.

Why is it that physical contests are held in the highest esteem but if it involves a bit of brain power, suddenly, it's just a joke?

I suggest you take that up with someone who said it.
