In what has.been an odd campaign, this may have more immediate significance in relation to the Ukraine. It's an odd system, the French democratic one.

Sitting in Paris, there are few signs of the election though I have seen few signs of the UK Election outside of the media. It looks like the picture will not be clear till the run offs next weekend.

Having passed a very brisk polling station twice today, this seems confirmed by this.

The New Popular Front not being as popular with those opposed to the National Rally as some might hope. French party names always sound a bit Life of Brian to me.
On leaving Paris yesterday, saw a bit more evidence of the election mainly Popular Front posters.

I don't know much about Le Pen's party, but I read that she has said they will not allow French-supplied weapons to be used to strike inside Russia, nor put French boots on the ground. Good.

Looks like the point may be moot. Projections show her not winning (https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/live/ck7gydwgvy8t?post=asset%3Afc098be2-e1df-41ca-ae8f-b7966abff548#post)

Excellent news. Macron's gamble seems to have paid off.

To an extent. But if there isn't progress made in the melange of parties, it's possibly playing into the hands of the far right. This feels like all the cheat codes have been used up.

Possibly. I'm not too clued up on the French electoral system. I believe it's quite complicated. I know a lot of candidates voluntarily dropped out as well, in order to help the vote against the far right. I don't know if a coalition is possible but I understand they're rare.

The New Populat Front is already a grand coalition for the sake of the election. There's big differences In it as regards Ukraine and the agreement before the election may not hold. The standing aside with members of the Ensemble Alliance was nor really a coalition, and I'm not sure they can work together. The Ensemble is an odd party
Held together by power rather than ideology but many in it hate groups within the NPF.
I'd regard myself as better informed than average on the French elections as an outsider but that's not saying much. The huge rise in seats for National Rally makes me think that they have achieved all they need for next time if the multiple coalitions don't work.
Macron as French President has to me more powers than makes sense in a balanced constitution and he can take some actions in the future that the NR were talking about stopping, though it's not clear had they wom a majority that they could.
I guess it's more of watch this space.

Cheers. Wait and see then. It could take some time, from the little I've heard.
