Despite much talking in companies about 'work life balance', I would suggest it's mainly window dressing. In companies like EY, where you combine that with a cultural force as in India, the demans become turbo charged.

And it should go without saying that the upper management of EY probably have little idea of work conditions experienced by the lowest level employees.

There's a bit of the argument about the 'fagging' system that's often used that 'it never did me any harm'. In some ways, I think that the fairly constant harping on about work life balance that such companies indulge in makes it worse because it makes it look like they not only don't care, but that they will lie about it in order to be seen to be making the right noises.
