Get rid of the monarchy and then?

I'm not a republican, but I guess the plan would be to institute some sort of constitutional presidency which is the same as a constitutional monarch except that the same morons who voted for Reform UK ltd would get a say in who it is.

Just get rid - I'm sure enough volunteers can be found to be randomly selected to take a one-day turn at waving, cutting ribbons and signing things (that we must be, by convention, signed without protest). No more toadying subservience to hereditary privilege or special treatment, such as exclusions to laws or the ability to have proposed laws amended to suit before they are passed. The aristocracy should go at the same time.

Can't see why a ceremonial head of state is required in any event.

There are many examples of republics of different models throughout the world that I'm sure you are aware of.  Are you asking for individual's preferences in which model?

That's democracy for you. At least we could chuck a President out every few years. I favour a figurehead President with mainly ceremonial functions, the Prime Minster having the real power, on the German or Irish model

But we don't need a democratic vote in order to select a person whose most important job is to sign legislation and who has no say in how it's done.

That's what we have got except the "president" is selected based on inheritance.
