A sad loss.
I have fond memories of the Damned doing Middlesbrough town hall in 1977 - one of the most exciting live performances I have ever seen.
A brilliant guitarist and composer, responsible for bringing a breath of fresh air to a music scene which had become boringly stagnant in the mid seventies.
I recall John Peel making "New Rose" record his of the week for several weeks in succession because nothing else came near it.
