I'm surprised we are not higher than 18th.

I'm not. Disappointed, but not surprised.

Disappointed?

Be disappointed that there is any gender inequality at all, but not for coming as high as 18th on the list.

I suppose - it's akin to the discussion on whether the world is a better place than it has been in the past, where I was on the other side. Things are better here on gender equality than they have been, and 18th in the world isn't a bad result, it's just that it seems like it should be so easy to do something about.

Not being a twat about women or men really isn't that difficult a thing, is it?

Yes, it's the fact that people think we've not got a problem that disappoints me.

Gender equality has never been a problem with me.  When my wife was carrying all the shopping, I never made her walk a couple of paces behind.    ;D

I wonder how many men on here do their fair share of the ironing?

Why is it, men are happy to vacuum carpets, but not iron?

( although to be fair, my son does his own ironing, but if I go anywhere near it, is more than happy to pass it off to me, he is a different generation though)

I've always done my own ironing, my mum made sure of that. Fair enough, once I left school and didn't have a week's worth of school shirts to iron I rarely iron anymore, neither did I ever like it, but I do it when I have to.

Define 'fair share' :)

Actually, I do pretty much all the ironing, and the bulk of the cooking and school lunches. Mrs O., by contrast, does the bulk of the household financing, insurances, organising appointments and the like. We play to our strengths, I'm an expert at mindless monotony :)

A fair split of the ironing - I have more things that need ironing, but most of them are relatively easy to iron by comparison to the frill-ridden, pleated, darted, multi-material offerings from Mrs O.

It's as bad with the washing - everything in, darks wash, everything goes in the dryer for my stuff. Mrs O's stuff... oh boy.

Sounds like you do a lot :)

Obviously this is one of my generalisations ( men and ironing) , but I'm impressed  ;D
