The Sherlock Christmas special is the most eagerly anticipated thing in the Rhi household
One of the most eagerly anticipated at Shaker Towers, I might add.

Fortnight to go - still not got my Radio Times yet  :-\

Best Christmas films? My nominations:

1. The Muppet Christmas Carol - surprisingly faithful to Dickens's book. And I mean, come on; it's the Muppets (and Michael Caine doing a good turn as Scrooge).

2. Scrooge - the 1970 musical version with Albert Finney (only 35 or so at the time). I'm not usually a fan of musicals at all but I make an exception for this, for me the very best of all the many adaptations of The Greatest Story Ever Told and AF as the best Scrooge.

3. The Polar Express - superb animation and a charming story. I'm not usually one to be so sickeningly twee as to use a phrase like "Ideal for children of all ages," but what the hell, it's Christmas.

4. Elf - just a sweet, charming, funny film.

5. Family Guy: Road to the North Pole - as a big FG fan, Brian and Stewie's trip to the far north in search of Santa is one of the best longer episodes ever made. As with FG generally not for the little ones, obviously, but the grownups will get the gags.

I am surprised that you include the musical version of Scrooge, since it is not generally considered to be that good. Whilst Finney cannot sing, that is not a problem because the rest of the cast are fine, the problem is not the singing, but the weak score.

Not generally considered by whom? I love it - and if anybody wants to make up their own mind, it's on Channel 5 tomorrow, Sunday 13th, at 7:35pm.

Reviews at the time were not that good, and I have to say that I have never known an amateur society perform the same. Still, there are only two kinds of music, after all. If it keeps the kids quiet for a couple of hours I may well change my mind.

OH MY WORLD!

Never mind some dewy-eyed old git on a park bench on the moon (actually an elderly actor on a back lot with little work who needs the dough); Terry's star turn is the best Christmas advert this year:

https://youtu.be/Vs8LcEkBfTc

I want a Terry for my back garden (if I had the space ... :(  ) this year and every year. In the words of Mr. Benjamin Zephaniah:

Be nice to yu turkeys dis christmas
Cos' turkeys just wanna hav fun
Turkeys are cool, turkeys are wicked
An every turkey has a Mum.
Be nice to yu turkeys dis christmas,
Don't eat it, keep it alive,
It could be yu mate, an not on your plate
Say, Yo! Turkey I'm on your side.

I got lots of friends who are turkeys
An all of dem fear christmas time,
Dey wanna enjoy it, dey say humans destroyed it
An humans are out of dere mind,
Yeah, I got lots of friends who are turkeys
Dey all hav a right to a life,
Not to be caged up an genetically made up
By any farmer an his wife.

Turkeys just wanna play reggae
Turkeys just wanna hip-hop
Can yu imagine a nice young turkey saying,
'I cannot wait for de chop',
Turkeys like getting presents, dey wanna watch christmas TV,
Turkeys hav brains an turkeys feel pain
In many ways like yu an me.

I once knew a turkey called........ Turkey
He said "Benji explain to me please,
Who put de turkey in christmas
An what happens to christmas trees?",
I said "I am not too sure turkey
But it's nothing to do wid Christ Mass
Humans get greedy an waste more dan need be
An business men mek loadsa cash'.

Be nice to yu turkey dis christmas
Invite dem indoors fe sum greens
Let dem eat cake an let dem partake
In a plate of organic grown beans,
Be nice to yu turkey dis christmas
An spare dem de cut of de knife,
Join Turkeys United an dey'll be delighted
An yu will mek new friends 'FOR LIFE'.

I went to the supermarket first thing this morning when it was reasonably quiet. I have no wish to go near a shop again until next week!

I've been to the shops a couple of times over the past few days at what I thought would be quiet times.

Bzzzzzt, wrong! Still have the last few bits and bobs to get tomorrow too  :'(

I'm being collected Christmas Day morning and will be brought home in the evening.

Shaker, I hope you are - well, not so much  back to your old self, rather that you are a new, improved and fully recovered - self.

Tesco on Sunday morning was a breeze. However, I'm doing the main shop tomorrow at stupid o'clock...

Thanks SD - I'm not exactly firing on all cylinders and I very much doubt that I'm new and improved! But compared to how I was for most of October I'm nearly back to normal - just have too much stuff to do at the end of the day and too much month left at the end of my money, same as always :)

Best wishes to you for a wonderful Christmas and a happy, healthy and peaceful new year :)

If you're still here at present (9:30 on Christmas Eve), be sure to get to bed nice and early tonight so that Father Christmas can bring you your presents - assuming you've been good of course.

Merry Christmas everyone  :)

Another Christmas on it.s way. Does anyone actually celebrate the whole 12 days of Christmas anymore?

I am always glad when Christmas dinner is over. Now I am going to go shopping today and spent my vouchers at M&S God willing.

Hope everybody had a good Christmas and all members have a peace, healthy and prosperous new year.

Love.
