As many here will be aware, there has been a campaign in recent months to extend the meningitis B vaccination programme from only infants to all children under 11. In fact, MPs will hear from a group of parents whose children have suffered frm the condition later today.
The Government say that the extension would not be cost-effective or needed further research, and I suppose it's worth asking just how many would such an extension cover. The programme started in September 2015, and it is hoped that all under 2's will have been done by May 2017. With some 4 million children currently in the 0-4 year old age group and at £225 a course of 3 injections, what do others here feel about extending it to all under 11?
If it were to be thus extended, what could be stumbling blocks? The sheer quantity of vaccine needed? Should the older children - say 9 & 10 year olds - be done alongside the under 2's, with the ever decreasing number of children in between then being done from, say, May 2018?
