Well, for starters, this is a grown woman who is complaining about things which didn't happen 20 years ago, and it combines the two most defining idiosyncrasies of the USA for an outsider: religion and litigation.

Perhaps we should establish that parents do not own their children but act in stewardship in their best interests. Perhaps the best interests of children could be identified in objective terms where health, well being and education are concerned and parents held to account. Among the conditions should be that until the child is old enough to be able to provide informed consent parents may not oppose appropriate clinical intervention on religious or cultural grounds.
