Computer help, please

At the start, I wonder whether there ought to be some sort of stickied thread for computer help?  Just a thought.

Earlier this week, my AVG Internet Security (trial software) 'discovered' malware on my PC - MalSign.Generic.90F.  AVG was unable to remove the three instances of this so I googled its removal and came up with a whole raft of possible sites - and I picked Malwarebytes because I know that to be a reliable source of software.  Unfortunately, that couldn't remove the things.  Does anyone have any other suggestions for reliable software to do this - or is AVG simply picking up something that might be associated with a perfectly legit. program?

Other than AVG, I have Windows Defender, but I believe that this is deactivated by any other anti-virus or anti-malware software.
Are your, or your friends'/relatives', garages, lofts or sheds full of unused DIY gear, sewing/knitting machines or fabric and haberdashery stuff?

Rather than start a new tread, I thought I'd hang this question on this thread.

I've been working up the Gift Aid claim for the heritage railway I'm involved in (it falls to me to do as I'm Finance Director) and went to the HMRC page on applying for the claim online.  They have asked that I use a claim form based either on Excel or on LibraOffice.

I'm undecided about which to use, so have downloaded both forms, as I have both systems (or at least I've only recently installed Libra, and was aready thinking of ditching OpenOffice, which I tend to use for Tools With A Mission-related documents.  Is LibraOffice drastically better than Apache OpenOffice (as its now known)?  Is it more stable - from the HMRC point of view?

I'm not sure that there is much to choose between LibreOffice and OpenOffice, the only advantage they have over Excel is that they are free, but if you already have a copy you might as well use Excel.

Speaking as somebody who has a copy of Microsoft Office, I'd go with Excel rather than anything else. It's not free, but it is the best by a mile.

Libra Office and Open Office are pretty much the same thing. Libra Office is a fork from Open Office made when Oracle bought Sun Microsystems. At the time, everybody thought that Libre Office would leave Open Office behind but then Oracle gave Open Office to Apache, so I'm not sure it is true.

Anyway, if your copy of Open Office will open and save their form, there will be no issue with using it.
