Has anyone heard of this website that allows you to contact local people and local groups in your area?

www.streetlife.com

I signed up some months ago and have been trying to use it to encourage volunteers to the Tools With A Mission unit in Penarth.

One request today was for the name of someone who could replace cavity wall-ties that appear to have 'worn out'?  Is it possible for them to wear out?  Is it possible to replace them without completely removing the outer skin and rebuilding it?
Are your, or your friends'/relatives', garages, lofts or sheds full of unused DIY gear, sewing/knitting machines or fabric and haberdashery stuff?

Lists of what is needed and a search engine to find your nearest collector (scroll to bottom for latter) are here:  http://www.twam.uk/donate-tools

I can think of at least a couple of ways to do your job, but whatever's involved it would have to be passed by the building inspector, so it might be a help to contact your local council offices and see if there's a building inspector that you could have a word with.

The best bit is they have to pass these kinds of what sounds like a little more than a touch of D I Y so if you do whatever the building inspector recommends, odds on he'll pass your work and issue certificates wherever necessary, job done.

These blokes love it if you ask them first before ploughing on.
