Making the birth of a baby a family event.

My first reaction was negative as up to a point I think giving birth is something private although I accept midwives are there for safety.

My husband attended the birth of my two children, but I would never have considered my oldest child attending the younger ones birth. ( he would have only been 18 months).

My first reaction is that young children might be frightened by mum in distress.

However this four year old seems to hav been well prepared and many of us wouldn't think about them watching the birth of a spring lamb.

I think it's because it's mum and that a child may be upset at mum in pain, also mum can't give her attention to other matters.

Perhaps I'm just an old fuddy duddy, but I think children, if they want to see a birth should be watching a lamb being born instead.

For it to be their mum giving birth, it just adds a level of concern about their mum maybe they are too young for.

What do you think?

I saw that on the news, YUCK!

My husband was in attendance at the birth of our three, but I think I wouldn't have preferred to have just had the midwife there. I don't think giving birth should be a public spectacle, and is certainly not one for young child to witness, as it could be distressing seeing their mother in pain.

hmm, given your views and the fact that life itself is mostly pain and other shite, I'm just amazed you went for three children, let alone encourage grandchildren.

Hopefully seeing the trouble it causes would help put the next generation off breeding completely :)

Ah, but I was so much older then ... I'm younger than that now

Andd how would society cope with a generation not breeding, Ud?  Think, for instance, about pensions and other things that are effectively paid for one generation by a subsequent generation?
Are your, or your friends'/relatives', garages, lofts or sheds full of unused DIY gear, sewing/knitting machines or fabric and haberdashery stuff?

It wouldn't happen "all in one go". I think everyone will be fine with a fast but gradual decrease in human population as long as people get their greed and over-consumption under control.

How does one breed incompletely?  ;)

Jamie and Jules Oliver have just had their fifth baby and their two eldest children were present at the birth.  Not little kids of course.
