Will Secular Humanism itself become persecuted?
« on: October 08, 2016, 09:28:27 AM »
In these days of oligarchical capitalism, materialism, corporatism and transhumanism I wonder whether Secular Humanism may well become persecuted for smacking of ''being a worldview'' and for asking questions about what it means to be a human.

Dear Vlad,

Quote
Oligarchy (from Greek ὀoλιγαρχία (oligarkhía); from ὀoλίγος (olígos), meaning "few", and ἄaρχω (arkho), meaning "to rule or to command") is a form of power structure in which power effectively rests with a small number of people.

If not actively persecuted, there was a time when anyone who questioned the status quo faced discrimination, especially if they published their ideas.  I can't see that happening again here but, as Maeght says, "Who knows?".  It's up to us and our descendants to make sure the ethos of (relative) free speech and religious freedom, including the freedom to not adhere to a religion, continues.  A diverse and tolerant society is one to be cherished.
