Fake News, Post Truth - the information is overloading, Captain!

I think we have to add in the effect that we now get to read more extreme views from those we disagree as well as part of the effect. The bubble chambers seem somehow to magnify those voices.

I have noticed quite a bit of fake news lately. The other day one site claimed Trump had been arrested!

Given our access to multiple times the sources of information than we have been used it, it  becomes a lot easier for this stuff to spread. We seem to have less and less time to fact check. Even when we do on something like Snopes, it might and has been challenged as being biased by people who seek to benefit from the disinformation.

The same site also gives access to a NY Times editorial on Mr Trump's fragile association with truth. The USA appears to be in for a very bumpy ride. Is it conceivable that some action he may take or statement he may make would lead to his impeachment?

There have been publications in the US which run fake news for years, the "Weekly World News" is the one which comes to mind. It just prints rubbish, the only story in that organ which might perhaps have been true was one about Liz Hurley, who upon being asked for a souvenir by a fan, took off her knickers & gave them to him.

What is more alarming is the thought that serious political allegations are being made, which are complete bollards but a re published in the hope that mud sticks.

Fake news is just another name for gossip. Lies have been around since the snake tricked Eve to eat of the fruit.
