Having been to see Sir Roger http://collections.glasgowmuseums.com/starobject.html?oid=326700 the other day, I then found this through the wonders of the web https://drmarkjardine.wordpress.com/2011/08/12/the-first-elephant-in-scotland-1681/
Ah, Sir Roger! When the Kelvingrove got the refurb, I was a bit apprehensive before going there - having spent many happy hours there (and a few frustrating ones translating Pabesa's magnificent stone sarcophagus.) Would it be the same? I needn't have worried - as soon as I saw Sir Roger I knew I was home. Took me a wee while to find the Baron, though.....

"for, as long as but a hundred of us remain alive, never will we on any conditions be brought under English rule. It is in truth not for glory, nor riches, nor honours that we are fighting, but for freedom - for that alone, which no honest man gives up but with life itself."

Thank you, NS - another excellent article. And here, Synthetic Dave is very useful! I did not have to try to read the old-fashioned English, Synthetic Dave does it perfectly!
