Hi everyone,

Here is a news item about New York City declaring Meatless Mondays in certain schools.

This week, New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio announced that 15 public schools will offer Meatless Monday as part of a pilot program, with the potential to expand throughout the city school system. Every Monday, students in the pilot will enjoy breakfast and lunch menus featuring meatless meals. De Blasio also added a personal commitment to start the practice at Gracie Mansion, his official residence "…

New York joins a growing group of cities that are reducing meat consumption, with recent Meatless Monday proclamations issued in Pittsburgh, Sacramento, and Vancouver, B.C. Global leaders, including Argentinian President Mauricio Macri and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, have also committed to practicing Meatless Monday.

"Cutting back a little on meat will help make our city healthier and our planet stronger for generations to come," said de Blasio. He added that both the obesity and climate change crises can be meaningfully addressed by adopting a more plant-based diet.

Meatless Monday is an initiative of The Monday Campaigns, associated with The Lerner Centers for Public Health Promotion at Johns Hopkins, Columbia and Syracuse universities. The campaign seeks to reduce the risk of preventable chronic diseases and lessen the environmental impact associated with meat consumption. The campaigns are founded on research that shows Monday as the day people are most primed to start and sustain a healthy new behavior. Since its 2003 launch, Meatless Monday has become an international movement with support from schools, restaurants, hospitals and communities.

perhaps no sex Sundays may have a greater effect at reducing population growth and thus climate change than a kid not having a ham sandwich on a Monday  ;D

Make it no sex Monday please, Sunday is my sex night.
Well when I say Sunday, I mean the first Sunday in every month which has a "D" in its name!  :-[  :'(

RCs had fish on Fridays for centuries.

I suppose that if less meat is eaten, then fewer cattle will be bred and there will be fewer bovine farts releasing methane. The article appended by Sriram delicately tiptoes around the way in which the greenhouse gas is produced.
