The lottery funds many causes, I doubt people who buy the tickets think about where their money goes. If the Britannia is generally considered a worthy cause (& I've no real idea about that, nor much care), no reason why it shouldn't be funded by the lottery.

I don't see a problem with it as long as it is kept separate from the main lottery. People can buy the tickets or not depending on whether they think a new Royal yacht is a good idea.

Yes. I'll have to read a bit more about it before making up my mind whether it's a good idea or not - but I don't buy lottery tickets generally so would have to make an effort to do that.  At least with a lottery ticket the motive for giving is not entirely altruistic, there's always a chance of winning a few bob; the other thing is it's not like signing up to give money on a monthly basis by standing order, you can just stop doing it if you decide the cause isn't so great.
