My main impression of the "classic" era is that Hodgson was if anything, the jollier of the songwriters, Davies was the moodier of the pair(and he seems to have been pissed off ever since 1971). Bob the drummer was as good at kick off as he is today, and Dougie Thompson was in all honesty nothing special, his replacements did the job just as well as he did. So it is surely, a choice of Hodgson/Davies, and Davies on his own?
