Wow good for him. :) Our DS son wrote to him whilst he was in prison, when I was home schooling the lad, and got a pleasant reply in response.  :)

Wow. You hear about conversions in prison, they don't usually last. I remember the Jonathan Aiken case tho' not the details.

At least Jonathan Aiken knows what it is like to be in the nick & will have mixed with other prisoners daily. He can offer good support from a point of understanding. Not just friendly, moral support, he'll have done his research and know where to go for help with particular issues - housing, jobs and that sort of thing. A good advocate. I wish him well.

Many prisoners use a faked conversion in the mistaken belief that it will reduce their sentence - which it, quite rightly, won't. However there are numerous accounts of prisoners who did change completely...Jimmy Nelson, imprisoned for murdering his mother, yet converted and, on release, ordained as a CofS minister, ending as minister on Iona, comes to mind. I wish Aitkin well in his calling, and hope his conversion extends to seeing the light and leaving the Tory party as well...

So do I, he promoted UKIP some years back too. Goes to show what a mixture we all are. Now his energies will be focussed on being a prison chaplain - voluntary but it will be absorbing. Presumably his income comes from business ventures. He might bow out of politics tho' can see him lobbying councillors or MPs about issues concerning ex-prisoners which will all be be good.
