Interesting, but I would appreciate it if you could please give a few details of type of format and number of episodes? Over the years, I have read quite a lot about philosophers, their lives and basic views, although have not gone into detail about philosophies. would I learn a great deal more from watching?

The links in the OP have the individual programmes in order but broken up into smaller pieces.


It is in my view the best discussion of philosophy that is available. I would think almost anyone would learn something from it.

I've been listening to the series for the last few days, so thanks for the recommendation NS. Its great... got to love the style of the programme. They don't make 'em like that anymore! Which is a great shame in my opinion.

A lot of people don't believe that the loch ness monster exists. Now, I don't know anything about zooology, biology, geology, herpetology, evolutionary theory, evolutionary biology, marine biology, cryptozoology, palaeontology or archaeology... but I think... what if a dinosaur got into the lake?

I had (and still treasure) the book (proper hardback!) when it came out. J. P. Stern on Nietzsche was a revelation to my teenaged self. Bryan Magee ought to be a national treasure. In a country that values its thinkers he would be (like the late and by me sorely lamented Bernard Williams, for that matter). His autobiography, Confessions of a Philosopher, should be in your hands, never mind on your shelves.
