Putting god first
« on: October 12, 2019, 09:00:54 AM »
I find it very difficult to understand how some people can put god first, before their family and friends, especially those who have a partner and children. On another forum some extreme Christians were almost boasting about how they loved god best!

Would any member of this forum admit to putting god first?

Doesn't thst depend on what 'putting God first' means?
Since I consider God the centre of my existance, I value His commands....and His command is to love.
Whether that is to love Him, love family, friends, enimies - whatever.

I know God loves my family more than I could ever do - so no harm in putting Him first.

As far as I am concerned putting the Biblical god character first is like having an adoration for Hitler. >:(

Don't bother to respond to my posts, if you have nothing better to say. Go for a cycle ride, but don't forget to wear a helmet and high viz jacket! ;D

Bit extreme?

I don't think so, if god exists and the deeds attributed to it had any credibility like the flood story for instance, that would suggest it is a crazed psycho.

And all the animals of other species, which weren't in the ark.

I get what you (& NS) are saying.  I could talk about the non literal aspects of the Noah's flood story but you almost certainly know that already so there would be no point. If you don't (unlikely), google will give you the information.

I will leave it as it is for now. All good wishes  :D.

As a non-believer, I am aware of the parable of the Good Samaritan. it is probably the core expression of the difference between the new religion and the old. It commands people to love their neighbours as they love themselves. This is an admirable instruction, But Jesus prefaces this commandment with a prior commandment - to love God. I suspect, LR, that the people you refer to are just making sure that everyone else sees that they are behaving "properly".

I am not sure what the word 'love' actually means in that context.

Shouldn't that be "God putting first"?

(sorry!)
Ah, but I was so much older then ... I'm younger than that now
