Dreadful. Through my work I know a young woman with a teenager who experienced very  similar to the one in NS's link, has been in fairly safe & secure accommodation but she went through Hell some years ago. Lives in fear of 'him' finding her too. She has been helped & she works but a story like that would frighten her about what might happen. This government has no heart. I feel despair when I read of such things.

Not sure you can quite make that kind of blanket assertion. After all some of my best friends are Tories!

Selfish is the quality that is problematic for me. I normally vote Labour, no surprise there to anyone on this board. But I have to admit, it is in the end for selfish reasons. I want better hospitals, schools, transport, social care, policing because I believe it will make this a better society for me to live (and for everyone else, of course). Selfish reason.

Bigoted.....hmmm.....I have met in the past Labour party members who are every bit as bigoted as the worst of the Tories and I have met Tories who do not have a bigoted bone in their body.

And stupid?  Come on this is the human race we are talking about. Half of us are busy stockpiling toilet paper whilst the other half are walking about saying well it's just a cold with attitude.

I didn't say that all Tories were all three (selfish, bigoted and stupid), only that they must be at least one. I also didn't say that no Labour or other party supporter was any of the three. In any case, I wasn't being 100% serious.

Mrs O. votes Tory.  She certainly isn't stupid, nor is she a bigot.  Selfish is a subjective call - she's of the opinion that too many people aren't prepared to put in the hard work and suffer through the bad times to elevate themselves as we did early on.  I feel she's a little hard on people, that we don't all have the internal strength and resilience that she does (and, back then, that we did) but that's not selfish, she doesn't want something for herself that they can't have, quite the opposite: she wants them to show and do what she did.

That's not all Tories, I know, but it's the one that I know best. I  don't agree with her, but I understand where she's coming from.

Just for clarity are you being 100% serious here?

It's hard to know how to respond appropriately when you don't say what you mean. You stated this before but weren't 100% serious. Have you changed your mind?
