I know he left fairly soon after they formed, but we have him to thank for this beautiful piece of music:

He was a lovely player, but a troubled soul, and much much better (Man of the World, Black Magic Woman etc) than you hear on 'Albatross' - BB King said he was the only other blues guitarist that gave him sleepless nights.

After his demise and exit from Fleetwood Mac, due to mental health issues, what was once a great band churned out nothing other than anodyne dross.

I was thinking of the extraordinary appeal of that particular piece, which he wrote. It manages to cut across generations. Most people seemed to love it for the graceful, sad and yet somehow joyous piece of music that it was.

What came after was, in essence, a completely different band. Although anodyne dross sounds a little harsh to me.

Still when it comes to music we all go our own way.  ;)

For once I can concur with everything in your post, Gordon.  :)
So sad that he was cut off in his prime by mental health issues.
To listen to him at his best - a memorable performance on the three volume CD "Live at the Boston Tea Party"
The truth will set you free  - John 8:32
Truth is not an abstraction, but a person - Edith Stein
Free will, though it makes evil possible, is also the only thing that makes possible any love or goodness or joy worth having. - CS Lewis
Joy is the Gigantic Secret of Christians - GK Chesterton

You cannot call Rumours anodyne dross.

Why not?

After all it is subjective opinion: I'll add, say, The Carpenters and Neil Diamond (both of whom I find cringeworthy).

Why not?
Because it isn't.

Why did you state it as if it was objective fact then?

I'd have thought it obvious that any expressed preferences involving musical tastes would be interpreted as being inherently subjective.
