This needed a lot more publicity than it got. I remember two girls at my primary school, both victims of that disease, both mobility impaired. That the vast majority of folks nowadays have never heard of polio is a testimony to why vaccination matters.

One of my uncles had polio when he was 12 months old in 1924. He had a crippled right arm. He was beaten at school for having to write with his left hand! >:( He suffered from depression as he grew older. :(

Excellent news. I was(unwttingly) part of the experiment in Hull in 1961 when a serous outbreak of polio hit the city. It became the first city in Western Europe to vaccinate almost all its population with the oral Sabin vaccine(the famous sugar lump).
