Genuine Christian love?

The Holy Bible, probably the most diabolical work of fiction ever to be visited upon mankind.

An it harm none, do what you will; an it harm some, do what you must!

We knew about all that years ago Owl, it's not news. On the whole mother & baby homes of all types had poor reputations. There is something particularly grim about institutions in Ireland though from what I have read - a definite lack of Christian love or any sort of love, as if the people involved didn't understand the meaning of the word (not all of course). It was a harsh place for the poor. Very sad but Ireland is different now thank goodness.

I suspect that Owlswing has(quite rightly in my opinion) given this prominence because the report on such homes in Ireland has just been published.(Jan 12th 2021).

It is worth noting that the last of these 'homes' shut in 1998, and the Guardian makes this comment:
Quote
The report has received saturation coverage in Ireland and came as a stark reminder that a multiracial, pluralist society with same-sex marriage and abortion services was not so long ago beholden to the Catholic church and deeply conservative values.

The Irish Parliament, and particularly, the taoseach, seems genuinely contrite about the whole shameful business.

Correct in one, Enki!

I can not remember how far back it was, but there was an investigation into one of these homes and it appeared that the Catholic church had made damn sure that there were only two very elderly nuns who had only been initiates at the time when the convent/home closed and during subsequent work to build houses and other buildings a well was found that, when investigated was found to contain the bodies of over 600 babies who (which?) had apparently just been dumped, naked, into the well!

Suffer the little children takes on a whole new meaning!

Ye Gods and Little Fishes! Some mothers do have 'em and the bloody fools live!

Are these real people or is this a bloody wind up?

With great regret I have to say that it is probably the former, unfortunately!

I am sure you used the word "charitable" tongue in cheek because I can't really see you being serious!

Just reporting the facts. I haven't given Amnesty money in ages. Unlikely to for foreseeable future.
