Anti-social behaviour
« on: March 18, 2021, 09:49:00 AM »
Apparently Lothian evening bus services has been cancelled across Edinburgh after 7.30pm each night because of attacks on buses, including throwing rocks at the window. As Lothian buses have acknowledged key workers are going to be affected by this - people trying to get to or get home after a shift. Night bus services will continue as normal.

It's really sad that we don't have the resources to tackle anti-social behaviour. It seems a real uphill struggle though considering some / many offenders have mental health concerns, learning disabilities, physical disabilities, substance misuse.

Has anyone come across a community intervention programme that is working to tackle this kind of thing?

Don't know what is behind these attacks, but remembered similar events around 2008/09 in a couple of Southampton districts. In looking for a reference have seen that there is currently a resurgence with missiles being thrown at buses and tampering attempts.

I don't think it is ultimately true that we don't have the resources to deal with anti-social behaviour, but rather that we are conned into having our taxes being spent elsewhere, mainly on projects that reward the already rich.

However, tackling such problems, including misogyny, racism, knife crime etc.. needs long term investment in care, education and well-being for and by the whole community - a welfare state that we have in name only.

We all have a strong resistance to having other people interfering in how we live our lives even when we are on the path to self-destruction, but in many ways anti-social behaviour is a call for attention.

Disgusting behaviour, I hope those responsible are caught and brought to book. >:(
