Neither is a patch on Magnus Magnosson, though.
I was really lucky to have known and respected him as a friend.
I still like 'Mastermind', though; however under Humphreys' tenure, it seems to have dumbed down a lot.
Anyone else agree?

I must tell my husband that Myrie is going to replace Humphrys, he enjoys Mastermind.

I disliked that guy Magnusson.

Why?
Magnus was a very warm, intelligent, gifted man with apassion for knowledge and concern for students.
What you saw on 'Mastermind' was only a shadow of the tip of the iceberg.
His sense of humour (and fish supper and whisky evenings) were something of a legend.
The last time I met him was in 1999, just after he'd received his copies of his book "Scotland, the story of a nation".
I have his copy, which he signed for me, with the missive
W
"With memories of Harold bllodaxe and pickled onions".....

Yes, me.
Mercifully, the programme has abandonned the ridiculous practice of locking contestants in soundproof cells during the first half of the quiz.

So many of the contestants now seem to have specialist subject areas taken from popular culture and their ignorance of more general aspects of the same cultural areas become very apparent in the second half.
Does Magna Carta mean nothing to you? Did she die in vain?

I have no real issue with specialist subjects being from popular culture. It's about recall so whether I can recall about Shakespeare or Love Island is irrelevant. I do think the questions overall are dumbed down.
