The Mauritanian: there being little of any interest to me on the main terrestrial channels last night I decided to watch The Mauritanian, a feature film which - unable to get a conventional release at present - has been premiered on Amazon Prime.
It is a film about a man who was identified as having a connection with one of the perpetrators of 9-11. Having a connection is de facto proof of involvement - of course - and so he was kidnapped and smuggled into Guantanamo Bay. The Americans, being the flag wavers of democracy, decency and freedom would not involve themselves in anything like torture, brainwashing and thuggery in order to extract a confession, would they?
I very highly recommend this film.
Two observations about the casting: Benedict Cumberbatch plays an American colonel and Jodie Foster a campaigning lawyer. I was amazed to find that Jodie Foster is a middle-aged woman. In my mind she is permanently preserved as the teen aged prostitute in Taxi Driver ...
