The closest I ever cane to meeting a holocaust survivor was having the immense privilege of meeting Corrie Ten Boom in 1980.
Corrie, a Dutch Christian, had been interned in Ravensbruck concentration camp, along with members of her family, because they had hidden Jews in their Haarlem home.
Her book, "The Hiding Place" is still worth a read.
Talking about books, "Selected to live" by Hansi Douglas is another good read. Hansi - Johanna Ruth Dobshiemer - a Jewish girl hidden by German resistance - married a British soldier...who was from Ayrshire farming stock. They settled in Dunlop, Ayrshire, after the war.
