Speaking for myself, if we have to choose between Sunak, Truss and Johnson, I'm pro-Sunak. Given that the prime minister has to be drawn from the members of parliament who are also Conservatives, I think he's near the top of the pile.

I'll not be voting Tory at the next election though, no matter how well he acquits himself between now and then.

Yes, I think that being the Tory people dislike least is not how you win votes but it may help rebuilding the vote. And Blair was definitely chosen to be the Labour leader people would least object to - though under very different circumstances.

Arguably Major in 1992 by doing a similar role got the Tories 5 more years but that was against Kinnock.
