Turnng tide...
« on: January 20, 2024, 06:25:32 AM »
Hi everyone,

Here is something about beaver restoration.

https://www.bbc.com/future/article/20240111-the-us-is-bringing-back-beavers-because-theyre-natures-best-firefighters

************

For decades, beavers were considered pests – trapped and shot on sight. Now the attitude towards nature's best engineers is changing, and farmers are working to bring them back.

Cheers

Technically, they aren't turning tides, they slowing down floods.

The only tide they could be changing is humans attitudes.

(There was something similar about rewilding with wolves, it was studied and the results were very good, but did seem a bit counterintuitive.)
(Edit, what kind of idiot would rewind wolves...?  )

There are several schemes for the re-introduction of beavers in southern England.
Among the locations involved are Devon, the Forest of Dean and the Cotswolds.

I used the expression 'turning tide' with reference to changing attitudes not with reference to real tides in the sea.

Also in the North Yorkshire Moors.
