Yousaf condemns 'outrageous smear' over Gaza funding
« on: March 10, 2024, 09:35:00 AM »
I think this is interesting not so much for the story but for the reaction to it. I think it's legitimate for the story to have been raised though it seems to me that the question shouldn't really be about 'conflict of interest', and the hints of a 'deal' seem unevidenced.

Yousaf's reaction is, while understandable on a personal level, not one that seems responsible in the position. Add to that when I read this story on a Sky report on Youtube, the comments on it were 90% racist, saying he wasn't Scottish, implying that you couldn't not be Caucasian and Scottish, or Muslim and Scottish.

Linking this with the discussion of GBNews I had with Aruntraveller on here yesterday, and the post on anti Muslim rhetoric raised by victims of Islamic terrorism on the Suella Braverman thread this morning, I am despondent about how we progress. As I've posted in the past, I think that one of the downsides of social and internet media is the pull to extremism. I see so many videos on Youtube on the US election that are about debates or interviews which are headlined as people being 'destroyed' or blown apart'. Part of that is an attempt to get more views but that very desire coursens the discourse.

I wish I had even a hint of an answer but that's where thendespondency comes in
