Wasd interested to hear Prof Stephen Hawking announce this latest effort to discover life beyond our solar system.

The one question that ran through my mind was, 'what if we discover life compared to which we - as humans - are as thick as the proverbial two short planks?'  How will we feel?

Afraid! Such intelligence would probably view us in the same way that we view bacteria.

I doubt that very much.  I think that, if they are more intelligent than us, they will treat us... er... humanely for want of a better word.  Even with our paltry brains, some of us have realised you don't go round killing people you consider to be your inferiors for no reason.

By and large, Jeremy, I think the human race is dismal failure. The thought of it having been "created" by some super intelligence is too daft to even think of.
